The Commandant's Shadow

This documentary film is the real-life story of the family of Rudolf Hoess, Commandant of Auschwitz, who designed and built the death camp in which he killed more than a million Jewish people. Hoess lived with his wife and children in a house on the Auschwitz site; the family's daily life is fictionalized in the Oscar-nominated movie Zone of Interest. Now, for the first time, the son of Rudolf Hoess, 86-year-old Hans-Jurgen, goes on a painful journey to confront his terrible family history.
